PARADISE VICE
All life inherently seeks balance. Balance is the foundation on which the primordial house of utopia is built upon. We dream of a world that presents perfection, a world in which our existence is static within blissful contentedness. All creatures- single celled to sentient bipod, have evolved to crave a space in which effort matches reward, a space in which one does not need to resist to exist. All earth bound life craves the paradise that is balance, yet all are are plagued by the vices of imperfection.
And therein lies the beauty of existence. Death justifies the pleasures of life, pain gives context to the wonder that is joy, while evolution fuels the self-damning pursuit of betterment- a quest for prospective balance. All joy and pleasure is inspired by that which we hope to overcome.
“Paradise Vice” showcases the hilarity of this conundrum. Cultural zeitgeists are reduced to kitsch iconography, humorously showcasing modern society’s quest to achieve balance within the most tumultuous period of documented history. Timeless ideologies manifest within the mundane. Items and imagery that passively dominate culture battle for space in colorful, convoluted scenes. “Paradise vice” playfully showcases mankind’s fruitless attempts to juggle cultural advancements along biological progression. Opposing forces are thrust together in contextless arenas, challenging the viewer to confront their own opinions about the world they live in.
